Little Rock is buzzing about Three Fold Noodles and Dumplings Co, and for good reason. Located in a fairly unassuming storefront from the street, this modern and clean space has a simple menu but incredibly bold flavors. It seems like I can't read a local publication without coming across a restaurant review singing the praises of this place, like all of these:
Hard to Beat
Good Things Come in Threes
... and I'm sure there are more. So, I knew I had to check it out.
My sister and I went out for dinner the other night, and we both had the same idea, it was Mo time. We also got an order of dumplings with spicy sauce to split, and we saved the noodle bowl for the next time.
First, we'll talk about the dumplings. They're steamed and so light, and they're filled with fragrant mushrooms and greens, as well as a little sprinkle of tofu. The hot sauce was my favorite part of the entire meal. It's spicy and oily and the perfect pair to the airy dumplings.
My spicy Mo was a daunting task of a meal, with huge, thick buns and toppings. The tofu was cubes and quite small, which made it a little difficult to keep everything inside the sandwich. The flavors were great, though. I got carrot slaw on the side, which was sweet and covered with a light peanut sauce.
My first few bites left my mouth dry, and I was worried that I would have trouble powering through such a massive bun. The vegetarian filling doesn't seem as plentiful as the meat dishes, and perhaps that dries out the bun. I added my carrot slaw to the sandwich, which soaked into the bun and softened everything up. I started hitting these amazing, crispy patches of the bun, though, and that made this a repeat meal. The flavors mixed together are stellar, and they're really unlike anything in Little Rock.
By the end of dinner, my sister and I were practically licking our fingers and sighing with happiness. The flavors build together until your palette is overwhelmed with authentic and exciting tastes. Not only is the food delicious, but the space is beautiful and comfortable.
I would highly recommend Three Fold Noodles (facebook page here), and I intend to go back and try the noodle bowl soon.
