VEGAN MOFO: Kitchen Tour

It's kitchen tour time!  I've been pretty busy at work, lately, so the fridge and counter aren't bursting with as many veggies as I'd like.  Grocery shopping is on the menu today, so I'll fix that problem.  So, here are some highlights of my kitchen!

Fiona likes the kitchen, because that's where her food comes from!  The kitties are fed by robots for their breakfast and dinner, and I give them wet food and treats here, too.

In the middle of our kitchen, we have an island that my friend, Erin, found on Craigslist for me for $25.  We keep our recycling underneath in paper bags.

On the counter next to the fridge, we keep cloth napkins, produce, and gadgets.

My parents just got us this new food processor, and I haven't used it yet, but I'm SO excited about it.  It now sits next to the Vitamix, which is by far my favorite kitchen tool.

I HATE our fridge.  The side by side is the worst.  We're hoping the next house will have a bigger area for a large fridge.  Our fridge is pretty empty right now, but usually we do produce on the bottom shelf, specialty vegan items on the next shelf, tupperware from batch cooking as well as tubs of spinach go on the next shelf, the small shelf gets breads and Josh's eggs (he's not vegan), the small drawer is for all his stuff, the top large shelf is for our filtered water and easy to grab items, and the top shelf usually goes to breads and earth balance.  As you can see, our door is stocked full of condiments.

If the fridge is bad, the freezer is worse.  We barely have roof for anything.  We keep batch soups and burritos, frozen bananas, and frozen berries in there mostly.  I want a huge fridge so we can start doing more freezer meals.

Our sink looks out onto our front yard.  Our dishwasher broke years ago, so we just hand wash our dishes.  It's a nice ritual that we do together after dinner.

I love weird mixing cups, like our swans and kitties.  They sit on our oven, which is pretty old but still does the job.

Our spice cabinet is pretty packed.  I need to get one of those lazy susans.  We always have tons of spices and nutritional yeast.

Our pantry is usually stocked.  On the bottom shelf, I keep flours and olive oil.  Next is usually salsas, nuts, etc.  The next shelf is canned food, soups, noodles, and nut butters.  The next shelf is specialty adds like maca, cacao, and all my baking stuff.  On the top, we keep oils, nut milks, crackers, protein powders, and a little liquor.

On the door to the pantry, we keep a couple dry erase boards.  I usually put up dinner ideas.  The second board used to have grocery lists, but when Bodhi died, I made a drawing, and we haven't had the heart to erase it.  She's been gone almost a year, and we miss her.  Basil and Fiona have helped fill the hole.

My favorite new addition to our kitchen is our pot rack.  Josh put it up about a month ago, and it's really helped decrease the clutter in our cabinets.  There were just some simple hooks we got at Lowe's, but it looks nice and helps out a ton.
