Odds and Ends


The theme this week is ORANGE.  It's winter, which means citrus is in season.  This makes me incredibly happy.  I have been eating clementines by the bowl full, and I've even been incorporating them into my smoothies!



Morning Sunshine Smoothie

  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (optional)
  • 2 peeled clementines
  • 1 tsp tumeric
  • 2 large carrots
  • 1 tbs chia seeds
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 cup ice
  • water to thin
Blend and enjoy this Vitamin C blast to your face!  It seems like everyone is touting the benefits of turmeric lately, but we vegans have known about its wonder for years.



We have been eating pretty late at night lately, so I haven't been overly hungry for breakfast.  So, instead of a huge smoothie, I've been eating almonds and clementines as a mid-morning breakfast.  It's such a great flavor combination.


I've had a couple meals out this week as well, and this modified Greek salad at Little Greek was pretty great.



It's been mostly salads and smoothies for me lately, but I did have one indulgent meal out this past week.  We headed to Big Orange for lunch one day, and their burger special was the Food Truck burger.  It had kimchi, bbq sauce and veggies topped on their house vegetable burger.  So. Good.

Fitness Recap


I'm a full swing back into yoga, with a lovely side of meditation.  Josh and I were training for the White River Half Marathon, but I dropped down to the 5k due to some knee trouble.  We also climbed Pinnacle Mountain on Sunday, and I would like to continue to add more hiking to our activities.


We are missing Bodhi a lot in this house lately, but we are fortunate to have Basil.  She's a real sweetie.

  1. Gurrrrl, those Field Roast Cheese slices....man, they are so good. This smoothie recipe sounds really good. I've been eating a lot of Larabars on-the-go for breakfast because the cold is making me stay in bed too late and I'm not really craving anything cold right now. But, I know I need to get plenty of Vitamin C, for sure! So glad you guys have Basil right now too. :)

    1. I need to make my way to Whole Foods and get them ASAP. I don't know if I've ever had any field roast produce... GASP. I know how the don't want to get out of bed routine goes. We woke up Thursday morning and the heat had died over night! The house was freezing. Luckily, Josh fixed it.

      It's definitely the time of year to load up on some Vitamin C. I need to start adding more citrus in my life.

  3. Also, we went to Big Orange for lunch and had that burger....SO GOOD!!! Your post inspired me, haha. Unfortunately, I don't think our whole foods has the field roast cheese slices yet. We picked up like, 3 packages when we were in Memphis, but I haven't seen them at our Whole Foods yet. Bummer, because they are really great. But, try any other Field Roast anything, because it's all amazing! The smoked tomato deli slices are a fave and we usually get the little Field Roast half-loaf for Thanksgiving!

    1. That is a good idea. I have been trying to figure out what to bring to Josh's family thanksgiving. That veg burger is amazing. I love how the sauce soaks into the bread. We just had late lunch/early dinner at cilantros in north little rock, and the veg fajitas are amazing!
