Fitness Friday: Training Begins

As you can tell by the lovely picture above, I have not run in awhile.  I am not going to let that bother me, though, because Josh and I are gearing up for the White River Half Marathon in November.

I am actually pretty excited to get back into a training routine.  Summer is where I kind of fall of the fitness wagon, but this year, I have done pretty well.  I have been cycling and going to yoga, so now it's time to pound the pavement.

I'm going to be following Hal Higdon's Novice Half Marathon Training. It doesn't truly start until September, but I have to work my way up to it.

There's a good amount of yoga and cross training built into the schedule, which I think is great!

I know I have spent a lot of time lamenting in the past about how endurance training makes me put on weight, but it seems silly to stop racing just because the scale goes up a few pounds.  That's counter productive to a healthy lifestyle.  I want to be strong, fit, and healthy, but most importantly, I want to be happy.

I'm training and eating well, and that's what I want to focus on.  You won't hear me focus so much on weight loss or "good or bad" foods, because I am happy with myself.  You can spend a lot of good energy focusing on why your body isn't in exactly the place you want it, or you can focus on what makes it feel good.  That's what I'm choosing to do, and it feels great.

I wrote up a post on our wedding blog about how I won't be dieting for my wedding, so check it!

  2. THIS - "You can spend a lot of good energy focusing on why your body isn't in exactly the place you want it, or you can focus on what makes it feel good." So very true! Those are great words of wisdom that need to be my new mantra! Love your outlook and positivity!

    1. thanks! <3 I have spent waaaaay too many years worrying about what I should and should not eat, what size I need to be, etc. Being healthy is one thing, and being obsessive is another. Happiness should win out over all!
