May Progress and June Goals

May has been my month to get back on track.  I've definitely stalled out a little bit in my weight loss goals, but I have been enjoying weekends and friends.  Last week, I told you about my Good Eats Goals, and I have been trying to stick to them.  I got in all the things I was supposed to eat, and I felt great all week.  I stayed away from my never foods, as well.  This weekend, though, I did not stick to the one drink a week, but I kept it in check.  The biggest development is that I started calorie counting again.  This has been an up and down thing for me in the past, but it really helped me get back on track.  I was down 1.5 pounds this week, bringing me back to 18 total since January.

I have a much healthier approach to calorie counting than in the past.  It's nice to get a general idea of what's going in my body, and I try not to let it go to my head.  I have set a realistic goal, 1500 calories a day, and it's been pretty easy to stick to it.  I adjust, depending on my hunger levels, after workouts.  In the past, I have let the numbers speak to me instead of my body, so I'm trying to balance both.  If you want to follow along with me, then add me as a friend!  Getting back on myfitnesspal really helped me stop putting random things in my mouth all day.  I only ate when I was sitting down to a meal, and I think that is incredibly helpful!

I think using myfitnesspal will be great for anyone that wants to see what I eat every day, since I have stopped doing that, for the most part, here.  When I first started blogging, I found it really helpful and interesting, especially since I didn't know what a lot of vegans ate day in and day out.  After a year in, though, it got really tedious and boring for me.  So, as you have seen, I have been focusing more on specific meals, restaurants and products.  This is more fun for me to write, and I think it's more fun to read.  However, if you're on a journey, like me, and you want to see what I'm eating, then just add me as a friend.  Leave me a little note, so I know you're a reader!  Say hello!

In my April workout post, I outlined some goals for myself for May.  I think it's good to go back and see how I did, knowing that I need to be flexible.  I completed my yoga retreat weekend, got back on my bike, went to yoga regularly, and ran a few times.  I cut out the morning strength training, because it was just getting to be too much.  Sometimes, you really have to listen to your body!

Goals for June

  • Complete Tour de Rock.
  • Go to yoga at least 2 times a week.
  • Try to get in one run a week.
  • Try for one epic workout a weekend.
  • Continue to ride my bike.

It has been raining non-stop here, so getting outside to ride has been really hard.  I've been having to move some of my workouts indoors.  That's ok, though.  As the summer approaches, the temperature in Little Rock starts getting in the 90's (F), and the humidity is killer.  When that happens, my urge to workout decreases.  I will be fighting that!

Lastly, I have been focusing on light, quick summer meals.  I can't wait to share this cucumber salad recipe with you!

  1. Great post, Dana! I will say that your fitness posts are very inspiring to me! I have a bad habit of being a hermit and a couch potato! Ugh! And it was really great getting out and going to that yoga class last night. I'm inspired to do more and work more activity into my days. I also just added you on MyFitnessPal! Woohoo!     1. It was great to go to a yoga class with you!! I'm glad that you like the fitness posts. I don't work out to get skinny. I definitely do it to keep my mind healthy. When I'm not active, I feel like I'm not living life fully, just kind of going through the motions. There are so many fun things to do around Little Rock, and I'm glad you are getting out there! I'm happy to be back on myfitnesspal! It seems to be going great so far! Thanks for adding me :)
