Traveling Vegan: Nola Trip Day 3 & 4

So, in full New Orleans style, the past couple days have been a busy blur, so I didn't get to posts as often as I wanted.  I did get to snap some pictures, though.  So, here's my blurry, quick recap of the past few days!  (Here is me very cold!)

Day 3 (Saturday)

Amber's (the birthday girl) mom and step dad have a catering company, so they came over Saturday morning to have a surprise birthday party.  I'm going to do a full dedicated post on that later this week, with better pictures (I promise.)  It was fantastic and fun, and it was a great start to the day.

My brunch plate was tofu scramble (which I whipped up), a black eye pea "caviar" over a salad, and some chips.  There may or may not have been a lot of champagne, also.  The tofu scramble was a huge hit.  I had people who had never tried tofu raving about how good it was.  Everyone has a go-to tofu scramble recipe, and mine is based on Vegan with a Vengeance.  The spice blend really makes it amazing.  It also made a great post-bar snack later that night.

The birthday girl surprised us with some really beautiful rings!  I love the copper.  So special.  :)

After brunch, we walked from Magazine into the Quarter, and it was a series of blurry bars and one very expensive dinner.  We decided to eat pretty late, so I scarfed down a veggie burger.  Then it was on to more dancing.

So much fun!  We took a cab home and crashed.  Great night.

Day 4, Sunday

So, I woke up feeling... um.. parched.  I got myself together in time to go to mass with the birthday girl.  I'm not religious myself, but St. Louis' Cathedral is beautiful, and the space is architecturally fascinating to me.

After mass, we were starving.  We went to Nirvana on Magazine street, because I was really wanting Indian Food.  Unfortunately, I was not impressed.  All the restaurants were kind of a miss for me on this trip.  Nirvana didn't really have a lot of vegan dishes, but I made due.

We spent the afternoon shopping and bar hopping, then headed to the quarter to do a haunted tour!  It was so much fun!  After the tour it was already 9 pm, and I was starving, but we hit up another restaurant with basically no options, so I wanted til we got home and ate the rest of the soup I made earlier in the trip.

I also made up several tofu wraps to eat in the car today, which was great.  I hit the road at 6 am and am safely back in Arkansas.  It was a great trip, and I have more for you in the following days (at least a full restaurant review and more pics of the surprise party.)
