Vegan Mofo Theme: Consistency

As most of you know, I really struggle with the way I see/treat/love my body on a daily basis.  It definitely comes from years of self hate, but the older I get, and the more I regularly practice yoga and write on here, the more happy I feel with myself.  I have come to a big realization about myself:

Dieting makes me gain weight.

There's no denying it.  It obviously isn't like this for everyone, but it's absolutely the case for me.  Those times that I fall off the wagon are when I put on pounds, and I fall off the wagon often.  Many of you that have been reading for awhile will know I've written about this before.  If you're new and here for vegan mofo, here's a recap of some of the issues I've been dealing with this year.

Finally learning to accept myself.
Learning to deal with my failure.
What does it mean to eat "right?"
Searching for motivation.
Doing what you need to do to be healthy.
Reminding myself to eat right.
Coming to terms with myself.

I hope to approach life with more consistency and less yo-yo dieting, and I think ultimately that will lead me to more comfort with my body.  So, what does consistency mean?  I'm going to outline a few things that I think if I can consistently stick to, I will ultimately be happier with my body and self.

Food Consistency

  • No more calorie counting
  • No more dieting in ways that are unsustainable to my life
  • Eat small meals, without mindlessly snacking in between
  • Don't constantly put food in your mouth while cooking
  • Eat healthy, whole foods
  • Slow down while eating

Fitness Consistency

  • Get in morning runs
  • Keep up my yoga schedule
  • Work in a couple weight training sessions a week
  • Try to walk mid-day, just to get some movement in
  • Get in more hiking!

Passion Consistency

  • Learn more about photography and continue to take pictures for the blog
  • Write for Vegan MoFo daily!
  • Designate at least one day a week to paint
  • Don't let work stress overshadow down time

but last, and most importantly

BE HAPPY WITH MYSELF!

Do you struggle with yo-yo dieting?  Do you have a consistent schedule that allows you to treat your body well?  Leave me a comment!

  1. Hello there! I have been reading for a little while and while I did not know that dieting had that effect on you, I can relate. I have a tendency to yo-yo myself (fellow vegan here). I am not overweight but getting there so in the last little while I managed to diet and shed some 10lbs several times. No calorie counting, just portion control and avoiding the constant snacking/binging (I am not sure where on ends and the other begins...). Great. Then some trigger gets activated and the weight packs back on before I can even realise it as I eat more and more and more. So consistency is something I definitely strive to achieve as well regarding weight loss...
I don't think I will get back to calorie counting: did that a few years ago and I find it takes forever (never tried MFP). So I just go by a feeling of hunger and at the minute I am eating mostly raw, not as a dieting tool but because I love it... the scale gave promising signs this morning.
While I think your eating goals are achievable, I would have a second look at your fitness goals: I am sure you know how easy it is to ask too much of yourself and then end up failing... and this particular area I think is too ambitious: eating goals can be made part of your regular routine, not stealing any more of your time, while fitness goals will dent your down time after work and you sound like you don't have enough of that as it is.

    1. you are absolutely right. i am an incredibly busy person, and i take on more hobbies every day. i think my typical workout schedule would be running and yoga, with all other stuff as bonus. i think i have finally realized that i enjoy both of those activities, while other things i just stop doing. i am definitely more concerned with my eating routine, because i always maintain an adequate level of fitness. thanks for your comments! i think portion control and cleaning up generally what I eat is the way to go. :)
