LR Restaurant Review: Mellow Mushroom

Two words, VEGAN. PIZZA.  I now have a place where I can get vegan pizza, vegan sandwiches, and salads covered in ingredients I can only find in my kitchen.  Holy crap, Mellow Mushroom is in town.

I have eaten at Mellow Mushrooms all around the south, and the thing that I really like about it is that they always have tofu, tempeh, and vegan cheese on the menu.  That's huge for me, because I can have something on any part of their menu.  It's always a go-to place when we are traveling.

Josh and I headed out to West Little Rock on a Friday afternoon and we greeted with a line out the door.  Good thing for us, we had plenty of time to wait on a table.  We headed for the bar and I ordered a brown ale from Fossil Cove Brewery in Fayetteville.  Man, it was yummy!

Josh and I played hang man and scribble sketch games while we waited for our table, which took over an hour.  It's a new restaurant, and there were tons of people waiting, so it wasn't that surprising.  The wait staff was very nice, and we had no problem waiting.

Finally, we got seated outside and quickly ordered the hummus.  It was flavorful and a great start to the meal.  I'm usually picky about hummus, but theirs was really good.

I ordered a big pizza, so that I could eat on it during the weekend.  I ordered the Thai Dye pizza with tofu instead of chicken, all vegan cheese, and added tempeh.  It was spicy and flavorful, although a bit on the oily side.  I ate a piece and a half and saved the rest for later.

It was so good, that I had a hard time keeping my hands off it the next day.  The crust is really fluffy and delicious.  I am excited to try more of their pizzas, sandwiches, calzones and salads.

I checked out another restaurant, for the second time, the next day.  Last time I went to The Fold, I thought the food was good, but the service was not.  The second time around, they seemed to have gotten things under control.  Now, we went very early on a Saturday, and the restaurant was pretty empty, but the waitress was very attentive.

We ordered the red and green salsa, guacamole and drinks.  I had a mule again, and it was very yummy.  Luckily, when our waitress brought the salsa out, she asked if any of us were vegetarians.  Two of us said we were, so she said to not eat the green salsa.  Apparently, they put bacon in it.  I was very surprised, and disappointed, but I'm glad they told us.

The red salsa was good, as was the guacamole.  I ordered the loco tacos, which had mushrooms, spinach, avocado and spices.  The flavors of all the food were fresh and delicious, and I would highly recommend anyone check it out.  For the non-veg heads, the rest of their menu looks really fresh and delicious, and there are more options.  The staff keeps renewing and adding things to the menu, so I'm really hoping they add more vegan taco options in the future.

I'd love to hear from you!
