Is this still a Vegan Weight Loss Blog?

As I weighed in yesterday another 3 pounds up since the last time I checked, about 3 weeks ago, I started to wonder if my weight loss blog had turned into a weight gain blog.  I have been on vacation and in the hospital, but I have definitely let those things give me a pass to eat whatever I want.  I definitely started this with the intention of being an inspiration of what a vegan can eat when she's looking to shed a little bit of belly, so that is what I will continue to strive for.

I think people can be happy and beautiful at any size, but for me, I want to be strong and fit.  I still have some ways to go, but every day should be approached from the standpoint of health, not binging or restricting.

I am starting back on calorie counting, moderate carb intake and exercise.  I like to get in workouts in the morning and have my afternoons for yoga (which are surely still a workout), gardening or hanging out.  My goal is to have my workouts look something like this:

MONDAY
AM WORKOUT:   Walk/Run
PM WORKOUT:    Hot Yoga

TUESDAY
AM WORKOUT:   Body Revolution
PM WORKOUT:   Rest

WEDNESDAY
AM WORKOUT:   Walk/Run
PM WORKOUT:   Lunar Yoga

THURSDAY
AM WORKOUT:   Body Revolution
PM WORKOUT:   Rest

FRIDAY
AM WORKOUT:   Walk/Run
PM WORKOUT:   Hot Yoga

SATURDAY
AM WORKOUT:  Rest Day
PM WORKOUT

SUNDAY
AM WORKOUT:  Self Yoga Practice
PM WORKOUT:  Climb Pinnacle or do long run/walk


For my diet, I still plan on eating around 1200 calories during the week and being a little more relaxed about it on the weekends.  I was having the best luck with 3 meals and 2 snacks, so that's what I will keep doing.  My biggest challenge is staying away from chips, bread, etc.

Speaking of chips, I have a recap of my Monday back from vacation.  Of course, it's still taking me a little bit to get back into a healthy way of eating, and today isn't a great example of what will be to come.

I had to scramble to put something together for breakfast.  Luckily, my Vegan Cuts box came in while I was gone, so I had some snacks.  I don't usually have coffee, but I needed it, so I got a BIG Americano with Soy.  Yum.





Needless to say, I was alert after that.  I worked on color boards and 3d modeling all day, and we headed over to Izzy's for lunch.  I got the usual, veggie tamale.  Bye bye chips, I don't need to see you again for awhile.


I got home and read some Game of Thrones while I waited on Josh.  I tried this cookie from my snack box, but it was hard as a rock.  No bueno.

Still in vacation mode, we decided that big beers and Mexican food were the only things we wanted for dinner.  After this feast, both of us were laid out.  I guess you could say it was a farewell, because I don't need this much food on a regular basis.






Just call it guac and salsa day.

I have sorted through vacation pictures, and I will be working on a few posts about it in addition to my daily "this is what I ate" kind of thing.  If you want to see all the pictures, you can read yesterday's post.

  1. 1200 calories! and you're 5'8! That sounds crazy to me. I'm 5'8 1/2, and for a while I was losing 1-2 lbs a week on around 1750 (vegan) calories. I think I would die if I tried to eat 1300. Are you starving all the time? If not, I must be doing something wrong. Is it really possible to eat that little at 5'8? I'm really asking :)

    1. it totally depends on what i am eating. if i am eating a high carb diet (200 grams or so a day) then i am starving ALL the time and can't stick to the diet. If i am eating really low carb/high protein (lots of nuts and protein powder) then i find it is WAAAAAY easier to stay around there. Also, my form of measuring is pretty lax, so if i shoot for 1200, i'm sure i'm eating about 1500. I have found that i have the most success if i set my expectations for 1200 and just try to hit around there. since i am adding exercise, maybe i should look at doing a higher calorie diet and see if i can stick to it. i also probably eat around 1800 on the weekends, so it all depends. i used to wear a body bug, and it said i burned around 2200 calories on a low workout day and really only 2400-2600 on a running/high energy day. so, i was going for a 1000 deficit a day. i will try to write more and post my calorie breakdown so i can get feedback/suggestions on intake. i also need to pay closer attention to how hungry i am per day. for instance, i have estimated my intake today to be around 700 calories, and it's 5:30 at night, but i have an office job. i can easily go home and eat 400-500 calories and be satisfied. it totally depends on the day. thanks so much for your input! sorry if that was all kind of rambling, haha.
