Lunch Fail!

Whenever I take a break from dieting, it always seems like it takes me FOREVER to get my stuff back together.  I'm not really sure how to get past that.  It's usually more of a problem if something is coming up on the horizon, like a vacation.  The last week of May, we're heading to the beach, so I have started planning all of this "get back on track" stuff for June.  That, however, makes it harder to stay on track now.

I started off the morning with my protein shake and a few snacks, which was all good.  However, I forgot we had a lunch and learn, which did not end well.  Usually, when I have no control over what "vegan" option is being brought in for me, I pack my own lunch.  It's pretty difficult to tell a sales rep from the south how to specifically order something for me.

Snacks make Dana happy!

When my office manager told me that they were bringing food from Tazikis, I had visions of everything being covered in feta.  I was right.  This is really not my favorite restaurant.  They don't even have falafel.  HOW CAN YOU HAVE A GREEK PLACE WITHOUT FALAFEL?!?

I entered the conference room and the reps assured me that they'd ordered me a veggie plate.  I opened the box to find a greek salad pita COVERED in feta.  Damn.  They had brought Greek chicken salads and a huge pan of feta covered pasta for everyone else, so I slumped in my chair and tried to figure out what to eat.  Luckily, I had my afternoon snack in the fridge (walnut pate and veggies), so between that and the chips/basmati rice that they brought, I at least had something to eat.  There have been worse lunch debacles.

I felt pretty crappy the rest of the afternoon after ingesting a bunch of potato chips.  My own fault, I suppose.  I tried to make up for it later with a big salad for dinner.

I'll admit, that's a pretty huge salad.  It's spinach, broccoli straws, tempeh, avocado, pumpkin seeds, olives, goddess dressing and hot rotelle.  I think I need to take a better look at my portion sizes.  I have even been thinking about posting my MyFitnessPal breakdown every day instead of just listing the calories.

Dinner went kind of like this.  "Oh hey!  Healthy salad!  Oh... hey.. there are saltines in the pantry."  Om nom nom.  Negate healthy salad.  "Where is the ice cream?"

Hm...

I'm still trying to stay positive, even if I continue to make poor food choices.  Anyone have any tips on how to get back on track?

  1. I do that too! Since I'm doing lots of travel this month and next, I'm having a hard time eating right while at home. But I find a juice fast or raw detox for a few days can be a great way to get back on track when you're ready. I plan to do a raw detox after Portland later this month. :-)

  2. Just found your blog but I find stress and over-exercise to be my downfall. Oh and being at home. If I keep myself busy, I don't think so much about food, in general. I also find good tasting healthy food helps. If it doesn't taste good, then I feel like I was cheated of a meal. Not sure if this helps. Good luck.

  3. Oooohhh, the dreaded work lunch! I hate those lets order the meatfreepeoplecheese meals! I always have a stash of canned soups, freeze dried fruits, dry roasted edamame, energy bars and individual smoothie packets in my "snack drawer" at work in addition to briinging my lunch amd snacks each day. Kind of rediculous but comes in handy.
I always have to go back to measuring high calorie ingredients for a few days to get back on track with portions, yet at the same time be sure that i have have a treat every night to prevent me from inhaling a bag of pita chips....;) right now i love banana ice cream with a few dk chocolate chips at night and a huge mug of chai.
